This week was one of the worst in the army, not because I had to apply camo cream for most of the week but rather, the inactivity and inefficiency truly outraged me. Well, planning just for the 2nd time isn't an excuse and the pinch is felt more when so much is expected from us each time we become the conducting staff that we are not used to the position of being the ones waiting. The inactivity translates to my platoon especially; when it is just basic training involving just the components, my guys really have nothing to do. I wanted so much to just leave than to wait for my newspapers daily.
Nevertheless, my boss wouldn't let us go and the seconds just dragged on to fill a minute, minutes ground to make an hour ... Glad that we're half-way there but burning the public holiday on Monday for a firing which doesn't concern me, nor my guys isn't so spectacular.
As such I celebrated my birthday out in the field, staying overnight there among boys, some still in their teens. Can you believe it? I just turned 27. Fortunately, I didn't feel a surge in intelligence nor a drop in energy just because I got a year older.
As the conducting staff were not ready, we used Friday evening as Nights' Off to kill time. Watched the IRONMAN with some of the specs and boy, wasn't it amazing! The slapstick humour and theories in accordance to science and phenomenon made it so wonderful. Somehow, the movie didn't seem so long and at the end of the day, we had to rush back so as not to be locked out. It was worthed it.
Esther will be coming over tomorrow, and my place will be the holiday inn for her and her mum. Still, Monday is a working day for me, so they'd just have to entertain themselves.
