It was good champagne

Leaving the work in defence diplomacy and moving on to the economy, I realised that I had most of the things at the tip of my hands in MINDEF that life was busy but very much manageable back then. I still have trouble on the phone because it is so easy to call the Services and introduce myself as "Brian, from Policy".

Anyway, this is my second week in the new office and I was nominated to represent my place at a cross-Ministry meeting and it was horrible because I did not know if I was bullied into doing more than I could. I had read through the key initiatives and projects already but there were still other stuff that I was not aware.

Looking back, I wondered if I could have prepared myself better but then again, my brain isn't a harddisk. I try to be optimistic and think that they are all institutional knowledge and that I'd get it sooner or later. I tried not to compare myself with my former DDs who earn 10 times my pay because they were definitely paid more for a reason and because as DDs, they received a thorough briefing whereas lesser mortals like me had to do it the hard way.

Anyway, it was the 5th anniversary of the Swissnex today and the Swiss embassy held a reception at the Equinox. It wasn't my first time there but I was pleasantly surprise that the Ambassador would spend 5 minutes to talk to minions like us. Also met with 2 girls from EDB (weird to call them girls since they are higher ranking than me) and one started off with "hey, you look familiar~"

Yeah, I guess I have a common face. But she concluded that she must have seen me during the mid-term attachment back in 2004 when we came back to do our internship. Well, it really doesn't pay to do wrong things here because people somehow remember. And I felt bad since she didn't look familiar to me at all (lol)
