Movie Week

Surrogates

What happens when the we can control surrogates using only our minds. At the comfort of the home, Surrogates will squeeze in the train for us, earn our salaries for us, fight for us, etc. We can look the way we want to look and best of all, being hit by an oncoming car wouldn't hurt us one bit.

The movie is so fast-pace that it was over before I could understand what was going on. Quite a lame show.

Bodyguards and Assassins

Sun Yat-sen was the leader of the revolution that eventually overthrew the Qing Dynasty. The year was 1905 and he was to give his direct instruction to the various provincial leaders for their coordinated uprising. The venue was Hong Kong, the British colony.

The Qing Governance made an attempt to assassinate Sun while the activist in Hong Kong came together as bodyguards for him. The movie was about the turmoils and defections from 4 days prior to the visit to the actual meeting, till the eventual departure of Sun.

Each character has a story behind them which explains why they behave in a certain way. The scenes do get funny but it switches immediately to something serious and emotional. I was worried that the large number of characters would pose difficulty in remembering who's who but the development of the story allowed me to have deeper knowledge and thus, connection with the protagonists.

Nevertheless, no one movie is perfect and for this, I'd say that the casting of Leon Lai was a bad mistake. Leon has only 2 expressions: No Expressions or Wide Eyes. He looked so ridiculously silly that I couldn't help but to laugh at his fighting scenes.
