Alice in The Hurt Locker

As there is no urgent email to attend to, let me update my blog, yay yay

It's been a long month and I don't feel rested at all. People have been dropping by, asking if I'm ok (I guess the stress is finally taking its toll). What to do ~ the portfolio of a more senior ex-colleague is on my shoulders, not to mention that my name (or Darius') is one of the first to be called when something happens (hope she doesn't have my no. on speed-dial lol).

Yes, I haven't been feeling rested. It could be due to the Amazing Race video, or my weekend 7am tennis, or SBS class, or just simply because I had dived into the planning for family camp ... Nevertheless, I'm planning to see the doctor after my trip, my digestive system is doing well either.

I was talking with Eileen the other day, that I can be rather unsympathetic. I can't help but to wonder if the problem actually lies with the person himself/herself (be it poor attitude or not being good enough) when he/she struggles with work, etc all the time. With that, I started to question if I'm not good enough in terms of capability.

The Performance Bonus news was a timely one yesterday, it gave some assurance that I had prolly did ok for the past year.

The Hurt Locker

I am a war-movie junkie. When I was studying, there was a period when I had watched ALL the available war-movies in the DVD-rental shop. So you could imagine my high expectations after hearing that it's won the Oscar.

But then ... hmm ...

The portrayal seems real nonetheless but I've watched "heavier" ones before. And even when the Sarge left his family behind to another year of duty ... it didn't hit me at all.

Alice in Wonderland

Quite a number of people had mentioned that it's not worth watching but if we want to do a skit on it ... then I would have to watch it right? Contrary to what the purists claimed, I kinda enjoyed it tremendously. Probably because I had not really read the original version.

Just like Kaiji - The Ultimate Gambler, I felt the original comic to be more profound and deeper and darker than the movie adaptation. I guess the original is always better.

Alice isn't entirely new to me. I had spent a month playing Kingdom Hearts and so the characters weren't new to me. Even the banquet table of the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen etc. Of course, Sora was the protagonist in Kingdom Hearts so these Alice characters provided only vague memories: much like how Alice couldn't remember that she had been there before ...

I kind of like the Red Queen though. I couldn't help but to feel sorry for her. It wasn't her choice to carry a big head, she was the eldest and should rightfully claim the throne, she might have her warped way of doing things but don't we have weird bosses too (and we are to be submissive)?
