5km fun run

Jimson advised me that I need to keep up with DA after a casual remark that 'we can go for a run some time', this will prevent any assumption that I'm a NATO (No Action Talk Only) guy. Emailed him during mid-week and he suggested a monthly 5km fun run starting at Lagos Circle.

I woke at 7.30am and jog to the starting point which was 2km away. There he was with his family and many more friendly ang mohs there. I was rather stressed for the last few days: I mean, he's a soldier (in his late 40s maybe) but I'm a office boy, can my stamina keep up? What if he is slow, is it diplomatic to slow down? But what if he's fast? I'm probably the only Singapore representative ...

He introduced me to his family and I assumed that they couldn't be too fit by the way they looked in T-shirts and shorts. As for me, singlet and running shorts, without my watch (which I regretted eventually)

Off we went and we were jogging with his son, Daniel. Still comfortable and I could see him struggling, we talked about this and that and with the slopes I began to feel tired after the 2nd water point (well, at least we are heading back - I could recognize the area), only to find that everyone turned to another route at the critical moment - I would have known that it was only 2/3 of the way if I had my watch on.

I puffed and panted and struggled my way to the finishing point - 27:16

Quite a bit slower than my peak back in OCS days but hey, 27min for an office boy isn't that bad. I mingled a little longer before heading back, dejected (haiz...) I promised to myself that I'd do better next month.
