It was just two days at my new workplace. And I'm still figuring around, trying to know the issues etc. I had always believed that it would be a step-down from the high-level stuff but my CE had different thoughts and somehow, my Director had arrowed me to carry balls for some cross-Ministry project where it could be a make-or-break test for the Chairperson.
Apart from that, the office is very much different from DPO. First of all, it is not a scholar office and the only other scholar brought me to meet some of his kakis, and I had my first taste of snobbish gossips. The yuppies who follow the nuances and expressions of the Chairmen and PSes, they must be the ones that Shu and Hong Da referred to when they said that DPO was very different back in the past.
I'm finding the balance to it, while I am not interested to be the guru in the field, I will need to know enough to make decisions for myself. I believe I will get to learn a lot (good and bad stuff) in my tour over here. At least I believe I will see back-stabbers and horrible people.
Amazingly I didn't experience it back in DPO though it was a scholar office. People may argue that I could have been naive and didn't feel it but I am quite certain that everyone in DPO was so secured that there was no need to bitch about too many things. The fact that military, dxo and civilian officers were ranked separately probably helped a lot too.
Don't get me wrong, the people at NRF are nice, I just can't say it's the same for the rest of the building.
